Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbs are an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine.   Each formula is tailored to the specific needs of the patient, following evaluation and diagnosis.  A formula is made up of two or more herbs, which may be roots, leaves, bark, flowers, fruits, seeds, etc.  Traditionally, the herbs are simmered in water and the remaining tea is ingested.  Since this process is time-consuming and because the herbs are strong in taste, this method of consumption is not widely used in the United States.  At Isbister Acupuncture, herbs are either given as pills or granular extracts.  The granules are dissolved in water and then consumed, thus easy to take anywhere.  This type of medicine complements acupuncture well; whereas acupuncture is a treatment which is often sought once or twice a week, herbs are taken daily, in order to help resolve the condition faster.
